NEW YORK NEW YORK

July 13, 2017

Hey guys,

As you may have seen on my social media, I spent the last 5 days in New York City and what an amazing week we had!!! With having just finished work last week, I couldn’t think of a better place to spend a few days. We literally spent our time eating, drinking, laughing, dancing, sunbathing and catching up with friends – both of our favourite things to do!

New York is without a doubt my favourite city in the world. I spent 3 summers out there before moving out for a year in 2014. I was reminded as soon as we arrived absolutely everything I loved about the city: the lights, the energy, the weather, the people and most importantly, the mindset. I actually got emotional walking around the first day, just remembering all the (mostly) good and (occasional) not so good times I had while living in the city, away from all my family and friends. I grew up a lot in New York and when I left in 2015 I definitely wasn’t ready to go.

I’m so happy Norwegian have launched their low-fare flights making getting there a lot easier from now on 😊

I’ll 100% be back more often. I got our flights for a total of €697 return including one checked on bag between us. It’s a no-frill airline – but if you’re prepared it is absolutely perfect. By being prepared I mean:
1. Eat before you get on
2. Bring snacks and water
3. Load up movies/ tv shows on Netflix on your phone
4. Bring a book
5. Bring a portable charger
6. A blanket and pillow definitely doesn’t go astray

We got the $20 bus from Stewart International Airport into the city (you can book it on the airport website) and it took about 1 hour and 40 mins on a Friday evening which wasn’t bad. It waits right outside the baggage claim exit, so is really easy and convenient. We actually got the train back for our return flight, which worked out at $22 each and a $35 dollar taxi from the train to the airport. It’s good to know there is another option, but I would definitely just do the bus both ways next time.

Lots of you asked where we stayed – it was the Sixty LES hotel on the Lower East Side and I couldn’t recommend it enough, especially for the summer as it has a pool. It’s a young hotel, with a cool nightclub on the 7th floor (which has a fab view of the city)! It’s in a great area for eating, drinking and shopping (Soho, the main shopping district is a ten min walk).

I also got lots of questions asking for recommendations of things to do in NY and in general we took our time here very easy, with a few tourist activities (Brooklyn Bridge, One World Observatory Deck, Central Park, and a quick visit to Times Square). There is so many tourist activities to do in NY I think it’s important to narrow it down so you still get time to relax, enjoy your holiday and feel the vibe of the city. I did a blog post when I lived in NY with lots of recommendations of what to do, you can see that here. I also did some restaurant suggestions blog posts when I lived there too, you can see those hereand here. But I would also add Pizza Beach to those lists after trying it this weekend – so good!!!

These photos were taken right outside our hotel on the first day, taking in the buzz of the city! I’m wearing all Primark, how perfect is this New York t-shirt I picked up before I left! I could talk about NYC all day, but my jetlag is telling me to call it a day for this blog post haha 😊

I have one more New York blog post to come over the next couple of days so keep your eyes peeled for that too,

Now I’m off to pack for my next trip to London with River Island tomorrow. July is gonna be one busy month travel-wise and I’m loving every second,

Talk to you all soon
